An important mindset flip creative leaders have is instead of seeing friction as a pain, they view it as a gift. The gift of friction is that it shows you where something needs to change. It invites you to think through, ‘What must change to make this better now and for the long-term?’

With shrines like Yosemite glowing on our mental horizon, it's easier to ignore the natural world at our doorstep, which serves as a constant reminder of how deeply industrial culture has savaged original eco-systems. Guilt fosters denial, and denial diverts attention; we don't see, in short, because we don't want to see, for seeing might embarrass us into action, or at least into learning, which always takes work. But part of the writer's and the teacher's duty is bearing witness.

John Tallmadge, Co-author of the Book Into The Field: A Guide to Locally Focused Teaching

Not only is it obvious that the topic and level must be appropriate for the intended audience, but the teacher’s enthusiasm for the topic and the manner in which it is presented are equally important.

My AHA moment: When people I barely know, never even seen or heard collaborate on a project to bring out the best ideas for social change, and then pursue them through is just beautiful.
